Natural State of Mind: My Unexpected Journey to a More Peaceful Home

A few months ago, I wouldn’t have described my home as “peaceful.” Cozy? Maybe. Stylish? On a good day. But peaceful? Not quite.

It all started on a random Sunday afternoon. I was scrolling through photos of dreamy interiors—spaces filled with light, leafy plants, warm wood tones, and soft, earthy textures. There was something about those homes that felt… grounded. Like they exhaled calm. I wanted that. Not just the look, but the feeling.

Step One: Clearing the Noise

The first thing I did wasn’t buy anything—it was actually removing things. I took down loud artwork, stored away the bright plastics, and cleared the surfaces that had become clutter magnets. The more I removed, the lighter the room felt.

Step Two: Introducing Nature’s Touch

Next came the transformation. I started small—with a wooden tray for my coffee table, a few clay vases, and a soft-toned, woven wall hanging that felt like it belonged in a tranquil retreat. I placed a tall, leafy plant in the corner (faux, but you’d never guess). Suddenly, the room felt alive.

Then came the textures: rattan, linen, soft wood grains. I wasn’t just decorating—I was layering calm.

Step Three: Finding Beauty in Stillness

What surprised me most was how this shift affected me. I started to slow down. I’d sip tea by the window. I noticed how the sunlight moved across the room during the day. My space wasn’t just prettier—it was healing.

Even my friends noticed. “Your home feels so peaceful,” one said. Mission accomplished.

Creating Your Own Calm

I didn’t follow a strict rulebook. I followed a feeling—one rooted in nature. If you’re looking to create a more peaceful home, start small. Clear a surface. Add a wooden bowl, a stone-textured vase, a calming scent. Let your space evolve.
